Meetings and Activities
We invite you to join us at a chapter meeting
Chapter meetings generally are held monthly, on a Saturday, from September through June, with a break in November and March for state-level activities.
Each regular chapter meeting includes a special program on topics such as genealogical research, local history, or conservation. The program is followed by a business meeting including the monthly President General’s Message, a brief National Defense report, and reports from our chapter officers and committee chairs on our activities in the community, the state, and at the National Society. We meet either in person or virtually and we welcome prospective members.
The 2024-2025 Program Year will bring lots of interesting topics:
September: Homecoming DAR Fair at which we'll have hands-on service-in-a-minute projects, demonstrations, and informational table-talks, all of which highlight the many facets of DAR's mission
October: Maryland State Corresponding Secretary and our Chapter's Volunteer genealogist will hold a genealogy workshop
December: Children of the American Revolution will visit our Holiday Party
January: We will have a program by DAR's Karen A. Chase, presenting her book The Travel Journal of Eliza House Trist, 1783-84 to discuss Eliza House Trist & Thomas Jefferson: A Friendship and a Woman's Journal of Westward Exploration
February: Our American History Essay Contest Winners will visit to read their essays to the chapter
...and more!
Our local chapter members volunteer hundreds of hours every year and we enjoy participating in educational, historical, and patriotic endeavors, all in support of our national motto of “God, Home and Country.” From time to time we take tours and participate in commemoration and service activities, all in the spirit of honoring Patriots, promoting patriotic endeavors, and recognizing outstanding citizens. During the 2024-2025 program year, we are planning:
November: Goshen Mills Chapter's Keystone event of the year! Dedication of an America 250! Plaque in the historic Monocacy Cemetery to honor the Revolutionary Veterans buried or memorialize there
December: We participate in Wreaths Across America to honor veterans
May: We perform a deep cleaning on a historic chapel
